Thanks to everyone that came to our rooftop party this saturday. Special thanks to rick silver and silver catering who entertained our stomachs and expanded our minds with his lavish cullinary concoctions. Additional thanks to my phone for letting me post this from the 90 degree, broken down F train. After god bluffed once or twice with some rain and deadly lightening, we picked up our instruments to sernade the guests. Hanging on for life, we ripped through some classics, including ny ny, robotic love, several pbrs, and the chocolate mousse. The night culminated with our good friend maldo getting invited to take a seat by some hipsters that were sharing the roof with us. The chair had only 3 legs, and he tumbled into a pool of rain water, spilled sangria, and utter humiliation. Hilarity ensued.

We've taken a break from sacrificing small dogs to squeeze a little practice time in. Notice the headpones we're sporting. Our neighbors above have been such whiney little girls that we've been reduced to using electric drums and an intricate headphone system. And they still complain! The jokes on them. They're embitterred dorks... we're in an awesome fuckin rock band. Come to our show tonite.

Crab People (taste like crab, talk like people)

TCL <3 's Philly

This past Monday, on the eve of our EP release, Tim traveled to our old stomping grounds to promote The White Balloon. Thankfully, through all the excitement, our PALM Centro was in the capable hands of our resident Phone-tographer, Hailey. First stop was in the heart of our old neighborhood Manayunk, and the studio of Philly's most dedicated and supportive radio station Skin Radio. For those of you who missed the live broadcast, Tim was interviewed by our good friend Al and performed a few solo selections from The White Balloon.

Later that night it was off to one of Philly's most diverse and respected venues World Cafe Live, home to 88.5 WXPN radio, for an encore performance. The built-in crowd at WCL was digging the tunes and Tim stuck around for some meet-and-greet action. All in all it was a successful trip to the town that birthed us and an inspired debut for The White Balloon.

A lot's been going on here in the danger room recently. Josh grew a mohawk. Mark found new meaning in life, in a burrito. Mike joined sean and mark in the old heads club (we're now 22). And, tim wrote 30 to 40 more songs. More imortantly, we're ferociously preparing for our forthcoming release of the white balloon ep. Anyone who is anyone will be at Arlene's Grocery at 9pm on may 30th to celebrate. Perhaps you'll hear a new song or two. Fan Profile of the Week: Ricky Silver

who is he? an aspiring scientist with a taste for good food and music

how did he discover tcl? Tim and ricky shared the ice together on the 'Little Flyers' hockey team back in 2006.

Where is he now? On a bus with us in Indiana ('Lincolns boyhood home'). He resides, however, across the east river from us in a little place called Manhattan

if he were a sex and the city character? The hot one, obviously

favorite color? Without asking him, we'd have to assume perriwinkle or some other gender ambiguous color that leans towards the feminine side

why do we let him hang out with us? Because he ups our street cred with his killer good looks, plus the video footage that he takes at our shows will one day make for an eerie look into the world of tcl

what you can expect from him now: a firm handshake, and if you're lucky, delicious eats at one of his exclusive rooftop soirees. As for the lady situation, sorry girls, he's taken

on our way to open for ari hest and april smith in chicago. we have 13 hours til sound check, and theres probably a minimum of12 hours driving left in a converted schoolbus that runs on veggie oil. Step on it stevens god dammit! Somehow everyone else here that's not in our band had the forsight to bring blankets. at least we don't have to drive. Thanks to april and her peeps for letting us tag along

Marathon Moments

Hey There.

I'm Mike, a drummer. Being this is my first post on the new blog, I felt it was important to introduce myself. Anyway, this post wasn't really supposed to happen. I was going to write an email to my fellow rock and roll compatriots to discuss a couple of things I had on my mind, but at the last minute figured it might better serve as a blog post.

So here I am.

And here CMJ is, or was, considering it's end is rapidly approaching. It goes out with a bang tomorrow night with Spoon headlining Roseland. Speaking of Spoon... Tim, Josh, and myself were lucky enough to catch an intimate show headlined by Austin's finest last night at The Blender Theater, formerly known as The Gramercy Theater. This was my first time catching Spoon live so I was extremely excited to be in the presence of such a revered indie mainstay.

Anyway, the show was fantastic. Britt Daniel has such an amazing command over the stage. He literally beats on his Gibson hollow body while snarling his amazing catalog of biting lyrics. He almost has sort of a Bruce thing going on, and it shines through. Jim Eno was also equally as impressive. His playing has always been extremely simple, yet immensely solid - and he keeps it up live. He's such a driving force behind the band. The set list was almost perfect, dropping classics from Gimme Fiction and Kill the Moonlight alike. My one disappointment was not hearing my favorite off of Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, Rhthm and Soul. Hey speaking of which, has anyone else realized that 'Rhythm' is spelled incorrectly in the song title. Was that on purpose? Oh well. Amazing song that some other lucky fans will hopefully get to hear tomorrow night at Roseland. Unfortunately, I won't be one of them (have a wedding to attend).

Before Spoon, I got to catch UNKLE and Holy Fuck at Webster Hall. I was initially turned onto UNKLE several years back when Thom Yorke did a collaboration with them on the eerily-amazing song, Rabbit in Your Headlights. If you've never seen the video for it, Check it out below. Fantastic... If the last 40 seconds of this video doesn't give you chills, then I'm not sure you have a soul.

UNKLE was solid live. I enjoyed it. But actually, what interested me even more was the band that played before them, Holy Fuck. Apparently these guys have generated quite a buzz during this year's marathon because I keep seeing press about them popping up in everything from obscure blogs to that free Metro newspaper they hand out on the subway. And deservedly so. These guys put on a hell of a show and look like they have a blast doing so. Anyway, if you get a chance, check them out. The song Safari is one that really stands out to me.

I think I had something else I wanted to say, but I now forget. Oh well, until next time...

Catching up.

It's been a couple of weeks since we posted anything. Our apologies for the lack of content and updates.

We had our band's first celebrity encounter since Mark and Sean met X-Pac's dad on the Daytona Beach boardwalk some 9 years ago (true story). Mike is exempt from this because he works at Atlantic Records and sees famous people every day. Anyway, the person was Zach Galifianakis (Out Cold, Dog Bites Man). Most people don't know who he is, but nonetheless, we believe he lives in our neighborhood. Just when we assumed passing him on the street was enough to prove his residency in the area, Tim and Josh saw him playing tennis at the local courts. Confirmed.

After a good month or 2 of not sharing the stage together, the band finally got back to it and played a set at The Delancey last Saturday. A few mishaps aside, it was a good time. Thanks to Amanda for sharing her birthday festivities with us. Apologies to Adam, our financial manager and dear friend, for most of us missing his birthday party due to scheduling conflicts. To cap off a great evening, we threw an afterparty at our place, to which, nobody came...



Show aside, we've been making great progress musically. We should have a couple new songs ready for our next show (Friday Oct 26th). We'll also have some recordings available shortly. In the meantime, here's a little remix of one of our older songs. See if you can notice what's different about it:

a fruitful journey

Pent up in cubicles and and dusty apartment rooms all day, the 5 of us thought it'd be nice to get out of the neighborhood for a taste of the good life. Sporting our finest threads, we all hopped the subway train to Manhattan with intentions of purchasing some vitamins and maybe returning some videotapes. Here is a clip that someone got of us boarding the local L train. It turned out to be quite the adventure!

Seasons Greetings

A lot has occurred since our last update. You probably remember our new home as a ramshackle, dust ridden open room with a lot of work left to be done. Well, it still is, only, it now has the 4 of us living in it. Living large we must add. A kind fellow named Larry, whom we will approximate to be roughly 55 years of age judging by his wedding album, was kind enough to leave some of his stuff in the back room. These forgotten pieces of Larry's past quickly evolved into tangible fun for the band. Amidst the piles of belongings were an aero bed (now sean's bed), 3 tennis racquets, and possibly the most delightful of all, The Chocolate Bin. What is this chocolate bin we speak of? Perhaps the above image tipped you off. Long story short, it's a 50 lb box full of foil-wrapped chocolate Santa Clauses. The chocolate is all aged to perfection, and we shall unload these delicious items on the black market once the season hits. Thank you Larry.

After an evening of cleaning and chocolate consumption, Tim, Josh and I took to the courts for some Tennis. We reenacted the great Kournikova vs. Kafelnikov/Borg canadian doubles match of 1994, starring Tim, Josh, and Sean, respectively. To the bewilderment of our guest celebrity judge, Flavagher, history repeated itself, and Kournikova went home the victor.


For anyone who forgets who Flavagher is, he is the love child of Flava Flav and famous prop-comedian Gallagher. He also goes by the surname Mayweather, and is popularly referred to as Floyd Mayweather Sr. in the media spotlight.


Another night or 2 of inconclusive crap occurred and then we all parted ways for the weekend. We are now back, living hard, and waiting for our kitchen to be installed. As you can tell, absolutely nothing of importance has occurred over the past 2 weeks. For good measure, here is a live video of us performing The Fabulist at the Lion's Den over the summer. Enjoy.

our new digs

We've been planning this move to nyc since the beginning of the summer. Mike has been living up in the area since early August, and Mark has been waiting for the other 3 of us to get our shit together and find a place to live and practice. Looks like things are finally coming together. We snagged a pretty sweet pad, right in the heart of Williamsburg. This luxurious 2 bedroom artist studio will soon be a 4 bedroom band commune, complete with soundproofed practice room. Who needs bedrooms bigger than 7'x10' when you've got exposed brick with original asbestos top layer. It's gonna be rad. First, to the roof...

We've also got a nice view of midtown, but who needs that when you've got...
